As we near the end of January, keep in mind that the start of a new year is a terrific time to let go of what no longer works.  As my mentor and colleague Barbara Hemphill so aptly puts it " love it or lose it".  Even though the second month of the 2011 is just around the corner; it's not too late to clear historical clutter!

This includes physical things you haven't used for years or, mental/emotional baggage you've been hauling around for decades. Trust me; there was a point in my life when I realized I was no longer toting around a "bag" of emotional/mental baggage, I was dragging an entire luggage cart!  The freedom and creative energy that results when you clear out the clutter will astound you and propel you forward in areas and passions of your life you may have lost sight of.

•    Go ahead try it yourself Start with something simple, a desk drawer, an areas of your closet or the junk drawer in your kitchen.
•    Dedicate 15 minutes to sorting the necessary from the unnecessary.
•    Next, move the unnecessary OUT...garbage, recycle, a donation, or, return it to its correct "home".
•    Last step; set the necessary back in place in an ordered way that has a high likelihood of staying ordered.  If it's clothing, arrange your clothes by color, a desk/junk drawer;  add a few sorting bins to the interior.  Agreed, this may take more than 15 minutes as you may want to purchase sorting trays, grab a few Ziploc bags for now.

Then choose another simple area and do the same. Note your progress and more importantly, note the feeling it evokes and the energy it creates.  When it's time to move to a bigger project, such as the icons on your computer desktop or the emails in your in-box, break the project into smaller steps, and, by all means get support if needed, which happens to be my passion!
